Parent or neighbor?

Hello,

I just switched from squid-1.0b5 to squid-1.0.0. My configuration is
simple: I have one parent cache and no neighbor. I was amazed when
looking in the hierarchy_log file to find some FIRST_PARENT_MISS,
TIMEOUT_DIRECT, etc... And UDP_HIT_OBJ instead of the usual
FIRST_PARENT_HIT.

Did I do something wrong? Or does this version consider each parent
cache as a neighbor as well? If yes, what is the rationale for this
choice?
