GMT is handled fine, just _non_ GMT times aren't (the offset is ignored).
Non GMT is illegal anyway, see rfc1945:
" All HTTP/1.0 date/time stamps must be represented in Universal Time
(UT), also known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), without exception..."
