ftp with iexplorer via squid doesn�t work

We recently changed from CERN WWW server & proxy to Squid Cache: Version 1.0.16.

Everthing runs fine, except that MS Internet Explorer 3.x users are not able
to use ftp requests anymore.
In the chache.log we get messages like this:

[01/Nov/1996:13:23:19 +0100] ftpget: ERROR: ftpget.c [658]: write: (32)
Broken pipe

The user sees a fast completing ftp session, but he gets only a truncated
file of a few bytes.
