Sad but true, it doesn't work with linux. I use a 2.0.24 debian system with
libc5.2.18. This is the message I get after compiling squid1.1.beta15:

pinger.c:215: structure has no member named `ip_vhl'
make[1]: *** [pinger.o] Error 1
