Probably 10000 simultaneous connections are too much havoc for your
machine. When you are simulating this, please fire another TTY and
issue:

kommandant:/# ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Bcast:127.255.255.255 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP BROADCAST LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3584 Metric:1
          RX packets:28 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          TX packets:28 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

eth0 Link encap:10Mbps Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:18:2A:38:4F
          inet addr:194.224.238.210 Bcast:194.224.238.223
Mask:255.255.255.240
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:363 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          TX packets:279 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          Interrupt:11 Base address:0x6200

kommandant:/#

You get something like this, revise the line who says RX packets and TX
packets it's possible that you have some problems here. It's a good
practice (sorry for the off-topic) to put PCI based cards like 3Com
3c900/905XL or Intel Etherexpress PRO 100/PCI.
