Compiling squid under FreeBSD

A couple a months ago you may remember me posting a problem to you even
though I am not a subsriber to this mailing list.

Anyway within 2 weeks I got the solution, (thanks to ktso@cuhk.edu.hk (SO
Kwok Tsun) now ppl can mail you instead!!!.. Really he did help a great
deal).

Since then for the last 2 months I have had constant mail asking me did I
find the solution, if so how did it work.

Okay delete this mail if you have no trouble compiling squid and are not using
FreeBSD.

If you have upgraded from 2.1.x 2.2.x FreeBSD squid may not compile as
2.2.x no loner users the /usr/lib/res* files and configure seeing these
files will
add -lresolv to compile squid. The program will compile but fail on
startup with DNS problem (Duane Wessels was right all along when others
claimed it was a bug). Either delete the resolv* files (back them up just
in case :->) then type configure or on safe side use configure then
manually remove all the -lresolv in
all the Makefiles.

I was led to believe 2.2.x had this problem but a user recently got it to
work on 2.1.7 using the same techinque.

I think it may have been in the RELNOTES.TXT in one of the versions but
like most ppl.. I just upgrade and find out the differences later!!!!.

Hope this helps.
