FTP and extensionless files

Hello,

when I like to see the contents of a plain name file,
for example "INDEX", in the netscape 3.x oder 4. browser,
it pops up the save/viewer/... window.

This happens only if netscape is configured to use
our squid proxy-server (this morning 1.08, now 1.1.14).

Who knows how to change this behavior?
