Problems configuring Squid 1.1.18

Hello,
I am configuring Squid for the first time this afternoon and am having
one problem. After editing the squid.conf file and starting the cache,
when I try to go out on the internet I cannot get anywhere and get a
message like this in my browser:
        Invalid url syntax: /Squid/index.html
In other words, for some reason the entire "http://xxx.xxx.xxx is
getting cut off and only the directories show up. If I look in the
access.log, the following error message is there:
        787.176 3 147.182.102.240 ERR_INVALID_URL/400 627 GET
/SpecialFeatur-

I followed the directions in the QUICKSTART document to configure the
squid.conf file. Does anyone have any suggestions of ways to
troubleshoot this problem.
