HELP: Squid QUITS with FATAL: fm->n_files_in_map > fm->max_n_files

I had posted this earlier, but got no response from the list. Am I the
first to have this problem?

I just returned to work to find that the squid cache was down. As I am
using transparent proxying, none of my customers were able to browse!

cache.log has the following:

        FATAL: fm->n_files_in_map > fm->max_n_files
        Squid Cache (Version 1.1.20): Terminated abnormally.

What does this mean? How do I fix it? Please help
