How to inside-firewall !www.mydomain.com

Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting a not inside firewall to work and
can't presently see why.

We have a rather dirty setup that leaves my firewall and squid
at mepsys.demon.co.uk, an external address multitone.co.uk and
and internal network, *also* called multitone.co.uk on different
IP addresses (*not* my doing, I hasten to add!).

Now we have an outside-firewall www.multitone.co.uk.

Despite the !www.m.c.u entry in squid.conf, I get an error
returned by squid (still 1.1.17) saying

        DNS lookup failure
...
        ..... host not found (authoritative)

All the docs I've read seem to say that squid will not do an
internal lookup, but that message *implies* that it is.

I have a single parent and single_parent_bypass.

Am I missing something?
Any pointers how to fix or workaround this?

Thanks,
      Gordon.
