There is a small patch that prevents this loop from ever occuring. It is
available from my WWW page http://hem.passagen.se/hno/squid/

The problem is that Squid does NOT know the intended destination address
when network translation is used, and since it is written to be used as
a accelerator it tries to accelerate itself..

The only platform where Squid is know to properly support transparent
proxying without any modifications or external help is on Linux using
ipfwadm. For all other it needs to be extended with the proper way to
get the intended destination address (patches are happily accepted).
