I am told that this is a bug in the Squid 1.2 betas. I am running
1.2.beta22 myself and see this problem in that version as well.

BTW, I suggest you upgrade to the new 2.0.34 kernel. It has a lot of
bugfixes and performance improvements, some of which are pretty major.
