Strange happening with 1.2.

Howdy Folks.

Another strange problem I've encountered (well, it's not really a problem
more a strange coincidence at times and even then I'm not sure if it's got
anything to do with squid, but it may have).

Some clients have reported to us that they constantly get "Connection reset
by peer" errors - especially since I upgraded to 1.2 from 1.1NOVM (that
could be coincidental, but who knows). Basically they request a URL - and
it gives the error, then clicking on Refresh seems to bring the same error
again.

I've yet to verify if the dates on the squid message (I think it's dated
right?) are exactly the same, however have a look at the following logs:

898801707.862 11922 203.22.233.98 TCP_MISS/500 1025 GET
http://www.lotus.com/products/merchant.nsf - DIRECT/www.lotus.com -

898801942.394 8936 203.22.233.98 TCP_MISS/200 3667 GET
http://www.lotus.com/products/merchant.nsf - DIRECT/www.lotus.com text/html

898819583.465 112 203.22.233.11 TCP_HIT/200 3666 GET
http://www.lotus.com/products/merchant.nsf - NONE/- text/html

The first one being the error, the second being the correct one and the
third is me requesting it for checking later. Now these three enteries are
the ONLY listing for this URL in the access.log file, yet the client says
that tried several times to access the same URL.

The client in particular is using IE4.0 (doesn't have 4.01SP installed) and
insists that they tried the refresh several times with no result (and yes,
the "feature" in IE of "every visit to the page" is set - not "every time
you start internet explorer").

Now since the last logfile refresh (not so long ago) I find that of 6159
"other that HITs", 209 are TCP_MISS/500. That's a staggering 5% (well I
think that's too high) odd of all MISS requests that are "reset by peer" or
whatever.

Could it be IE4.0? I use IE4.01SP and rarely get that problem (I'm about
to tell them to upgrade to 4.01SP and see what happens), but others will
complain to no end.

Any ideas welcomed.
