firewall connection failure

every once in a while i see squid via messages reports connection failure
socks.lausd.k12.ca.us which is my http proxy district firewall.
is there something on my end or there's. squid will work for days and then
go down with the above message. ie. dead parent. any ideas where i should
start looking..?
