Squid 2.0PATCH2 Weird probems

I'm having a strange problem using the Debian apt-get tool (to update
packages on the system) through a Squid. Whenever I do an ``apt-get
upgrade'' (upgrades all installed packages) my squid proxy dies. I sent
a message to the apt-get people at Debian first, and got deferred here.

The problem happens from all the linux boxes, including the one the
squid runs on. The upgrade process will get partially done, then squid
goes down. This happens 2 or 3 times in a normal upgrade process. Doing
the upgrade directly, without proxying, works fine. They are all current
Debian 2.1 (slink) systems, Squid is version 2.0PATCH2.

The squid box is a 486DX4-120 with 32mb RAM and 1.2gb disk. There are
plenty of both free.

This problem does not occur when browsing the web.
Anyone have any suggestions?
