no_cache and disk access

How does Squid deal exactly with the no_cache directive ? I have set squid not to cache anything and just act as a proxy. So does this mean Squid will only transfer objects to memory until transfer is completed and then frees the memory immediately without accessing the disk ? does this implies too that disk access will be to a minimum, except for those objects already cached before i apply the directive ? does this imply too that unlinkd will never be called ?
