Use of "dnsserver" vs named direct

Hi,

A quick question. Why does Squid run it's own dnsserver processes rather
than directly use named? I am running a small network and both named and
squid are running on the same machine. It seems pointless to have both
types of DNS setup on the same machine if they are doing the same job.

Do the dnsserver processes provide a different function to that which named
(Bind8.2 in this case) could just as easily do itself? Or is it to do with
the blocking of DNS lookups when multiple hosts are being looked up at once?
