heuristic for server names

One of the most annoying this about squid to me is that I cannot simply
type in "apple" or "microsoft" to get "www.apple.com" or
"www.microsoft.com"
Lynx uses a heuristic to try various names until it finds one that works.
There is also a PERL CPAN module URI which does similar things in a PERL
module.

Does / can Squid do this? If not, is anyone working on this? If not,
should I work on this? If so, anyone (closely familiar with the
source) want to direct me to exactly where in the code this check should
go?

Thanks!
