Hello all,

I have seen a problem in our squid servers.
It is running on IRIX 6.5,after squid running for several hours I can
see at the peak time that the "Wait Ratio" for I/O and Swap is very
high, so that the response of the squid is also very slow.
After I did a shutdown, the performance is back to normal.
I reduce the maximum_object_size to 2 MB and reduce the numbers of
dnsserver processes running.
What else can be tuned up to get the best performance of the squid.
Does the dnsserver process use the specified amount of memory
"cache_mem"?
Is the cache_swap_low/high used to specify the limit for the "garbage
collector" process to do its job?
Can we set the timing when the "garbage collector" process should do
it job?
Any helps will be greatly appreciated.

best regards,

Muljawan
