That was my old production system. I see no particular reason

No. It's just that apparently the following definition is available
on every system:

#define MAP_FAILED ((__ptr_t) -1)

or simply

#define MAP_FAILED ((void*) -1)

if you don't have the __ptr_t type. Insert it somewhere at the top
of store_dir.c

It's in /usr/include/sys/mman.h normally.
