...which Squid does a few times when first starting up (before it settles into
its normal "running state"), meaning there's still use for RunCache yet...

RunCache logs stdout from Squid to "squid.out" (useful for catching error
messages such as assertion failures when Squid dies); does the internal
daemon mode similarly redirect output to syslog (or similar)?
