Alternative to htpasswd?

Hi all,

I've recently managed to get proxy authentication working with
squid-2.2. I'm currently using the "htpasswd + ncsa_auth" method and
I'm wondering if there isn't a better way? Specifically, I would like
to know if there is a similar solution which also implements password
aging? Is there? If not, I'm curious to know what others are using
and why.
