Accelerator Cache

Hi,

Quick, kinda dumb question.

I read the definition of an Accelerator and a Cache on the squid page.

But i didnt fully understand.

At home i run an accelerator ./RunAccel and it works fine, enables me to
surf the web faster etc..
I then read if you wish to make web browsing faster for local users, and
Accelerator is irrelevent?

Can someone explain to me Cache and Accelerator for Dummies.... in a
practical situation for both,
