Allen,

Sounds as if you have compiled squid with CARP support, yet you are not
using CARP. The CARP protocol only supports PARENT type caches, thus it
complains when you enter a sibling.

Recompile squid without CARP and you should be just fine. (When you do
./configure do not put the "--enable-carp" option in).
