Squid dies when site upgrades from 128Kb to 8Mb

Hi all,
                                                                      
I have a site which has gone from 128Kb ISDN link to an 8Mb microwave
link, since then they have experanced performance problems downloading
 from overseas and local sites. The server is a Sun Ultra 10 with
Sol2.6.
                                                                      
Any ideas on how to tune/fix squid to run on this size link would be
greatfully accepted.
