Some Linux distros, such as Red Hat, make it really easy for you and put a
Squid startup/shutdown/status script in /etc/rc.d/init.d if you
install Squid from RPMs. You can then tell the
system to run this script at boot-up with the ntsysv utility.

Other distros use a file called "rc.local" or similar, usually in /etc or
in a subdir of /etc. Add a few lines pointing to your Squid start-up
script there.
