[SQU] getting a squid server to go direct of the parent proxy is down

Hello,

i can get the two squid proxy servers to communicate and work together bit as soon as the parent goes down (we pull the cable out of the parent to test it) the other proxy doesn't but but as soon as you put the cable back into the parent, it all works again, i have read uyp the faq but it doesn't help, any suggestions/help?
