Well, it depends on what you want to do.

For Squid there is two alternative paths:

a) Use a LDAP authentication helper (ldap_auth), telling Squid to
connect to the LDAP server for password verification.

b) Use PAM modules to connect to the LDAP server, and tell squid to use
the pam_auth authentication helper to ask the PAM system to do the
password verification.
