On most platforms Squid automatically selects the appropriate method
when it is built.

If you built Squid yourself in the first place then the safest method is
repeating what you did then.

If you are using a pre-build Squid binary, then the safest method is to
learn how to regenerate the pre-build Squid binary and then update the
package definition with the changes you need. This to make sure paths
and such things are properly perserved.
