[SQU] Parents Unreliable

Is there any way for Squid to sense that a parent is unreliable?
We had a situation where the NIC was going bad on one of the parent servers
( we have 2 )
The logs showed parent DEAD/parent REVIVED, every few seconds.. When pinging
the server I got 40% packet loss..
My question is, is there a way to have squid ignore a parent for say an hour
if it fails more than 10 times in 5 minutes?
