[SQU] Firewall

I read the following in the faq:
4.8 How do I configure Squid to work behind a firewall?

I want to clarify to make sure I understand it correctly.

If I have squid behind a firewall, I STILL need one outside the firewall?

This would mean then that there is not too much of an issue with having
SQUID on the internet instead of proxying from behind a firewall?
