[SQU] I Hope this will not sound silly

Hi All
I hope this will not be a funny question, I would like to know how do I
apply a patch.
for example I want to Patch squid2.3 stable3 with the
squid-2.3.stable-storeExpiredReferenceAge.patch.
Your Help would be very much appreciated
