[SQU] Local DNS server ignored?

Hi,

I have a box connected to my cable modem which acts as a firewall for a few machines at home.
I also have a DNS server setup which has a few test internal domain names. These DNS names are for internal use only and are not known by any external DNS servers.
If I have any of my machines setup to use the proxy server I cannot get to any local DNS sites.
Is there some setting that will tell squid to check dns entries via the local DNS server?
I couldn't find anything in the FAQ referring to this.
