[squid-users] TCP_MISS/503

Hi all
  i m slightly confused abt the foll status code showing up in access.log
it says
1005381214.772 1966 10.1.5.16 TCP_MISS/503 1171 GET
http://a666.g.akamaitech.n
et/7/666/175/2001110909/cache1.jcpenney.com/images/seasonal/sports_recreation_na
v.gif - NONE/- -
1005381218.289 1829 10.1.5.16 TCP_MISS/503 1155 GET

IE starts downloading the images , but never displays them and shows a'x' as
placeholder
Howvere the same page loads fine with all theimages using some other proxy or
if connecting directly
this is Squid 2.4 stable 2

since the image object size is being shown in the log file it means that the
image was actually retreived by squid so why the 503 service unavailable code
