thank your for your wise advice, but as i usually don't use configure
options that i don't understand i don't think the problem is here..

there is in fact some information about this option here:

the option is described as a way to reduce number of system calls, which
looks to me as a good thing.
the only side-effect mentionned is a loss in log accuracy (as timestamps are
updated only every second)

there is no mention of the problems of this option with async-io and 100%
CPU usage or other side-effects.

in the source distribution and in the FAQ i couldn't find a warning about
the problem i could have using --enable-time-hack

so i think some user in good faith can use this option and have problems
because of it.

so you didn't address the issue here.

i think that an unstable feature of a stable release should be at least
labelled as "unstable" or "experimental"..
