Argh! my error. 2.4.STABLE3 patch and 2.5.PRE4 release corrected. If
you have this problem please fetch a new copy, or change the failing
line to use xfree() instead of free().

Details: A small correction got lost when the fixes was backported
from HEAD. My only excuse is sleep deprivation making me forget to
make a final test of the backported chages before publishing..
