to the best of my knowledge squid won't handle your smtp or pop traffic.

if you can't get out through ports 25 or 110 (from your clients) then it is
likely a firewall issue.

if you want to only allow port 25 access to the server then you will need to
set up a relay on this machine.

regarding pop, your best bet is to set up an internal server if you want to
block external pop access on your clients.

you would likely need to either :

a) set up mx in dns to have your internal mail server the destination
b) set up an external mail relay that doesn't obey the mx rules.
c) spool mail on external server and deliver to accounts on the internal
machine.
    ex: joe@domain.com goes to exmail.domain.com, then
    set up virtuser in sendmail (etc...) to forward to
joe@internal.domain.com
    or @domain.com -> %1@internal.domain.com

there are some other options but those are my favorites...

just noticed your email address - if you are using rr.com service for your
mail i suppose you won't be much interested in the above ;-)

take care
