[squid-users] proxy_auth error

A user from the list gave me this info to help set up usernames and
passwords for squid. I get the login box now, but it does not respond to
any username/password combo. I have played with the passwd path a bit, but
to no avail. I am using red Hat 7.1. Any ideas of what I need to change for
this?

PS.
is this error related to my problem?
[root@support /root]# service squid restart
Stopping squid: /etc/init.d/squid: line 2: 22542 Aborted
(core dumped) $SQUID -k check >/dev/null 2>&1

Added to squid.conf:

# ACL for Internet Authentication
acl internet proxy_auth REQUIRED

# http_access rules
http_access allow internet
http_access deny all

In addition, in the auth_param section, I also have:

auth_param basic program /usr/local/squid/libexec/ncsa_auth
/usr/local/squid/etc/passwd

which means that when using htpasswd, the path to the passwd file needs to
be specified when adding/changing users.
