[squid-users] start service from telnet

Hello.
Somebody know how to start a service from telnet????
In the machine (redhat 7.1) is only service "service" start/stop/restart
or in the directory /etc/rc.d/init.d/"service /start/stop/restart.

But, when I log from other machine using telnet, and after log changuin
to root (using command su), I tried to start a service and dont't work.
