[squid-users] Squid as a VPN

Hi folks,

I'm wandering if squid could act as a sort of mini VPN server for my internet
clients to connect to a LAN server?

In fact I'd like to use squid to provide an https connection to a client and
connect it to a LAN server which is'nt able to manage https connection like
this :

Internet Client <===HTTPS===> Squid (on a DMZ) <===HTTP===> LAN Web server

The idea is to do a sort of VPN between the clients and the DMZ in order to
crypt the user/password transmission over the net, but not in the LAN.

A true VPN solution has been investigated but as The clients are in a large
panel of OS and version of OS, it seems difficult to implement such a
solution.

If squid isn't able to do that, have you an idea of how I can implement this
solution?

Thanks :-)
Jean-Michel.
