At this time the Squid-3 development version behaves the same, and
Squid-3.0 probably also will unless someone actually using Squid for
acceleration of authenticated content is interested in making it behave
differently and submits a patch.
My company MARA Systems is using Squid in reverse proxy mode with
authentication, but not for content acceleration purposes at this time
(mainly because none of our reverse-proxy customers have asked for this
feature). The enhancements we have done in reverse proxy mode of Squid-3
is a direct result of our requirements, and indirectly those of our
customers. When we or our customers have a need of content acceleration
in reverse proxies then we will look into this issue and a number of
other content acceleration related issues, but not before then.
Regards
Henrik
