[squid-users] squid store rebuilding problem

I got problem with squid...........

i have squis2.5 stable1 on redhat linux 7.1 kernel 2.4
I have set cache_dir to 24 GB
when i starting squid it is taking cpu usage 90-99 %
and cache.log says :

store rebuilding.......
after some percentage of store rebuilding it start squid automatically
restarted and restart store rebuilding process..
then i have stop redirecting 80 port traffic to 3128 and started squid
again.
i has taken round about 1 hour to rebuild store of size 8 GB.
and then after i restarted squid and i got started squdi within fraction of
time.
and right now it is working fine..
but i am interested in knowing reason why squid had faced problem of store
rebuilding........
