Preliminary result -- hno wrote to me:

Patch to prevent buffer underrun on parsing empty domain labels

Looks promising as cause to your segfaults. Any DNS reply with a empty
name label (".") will cause memory corruption buffer underflow of 1
byte set to 0.

I applied the patch and am watching my proxy. More on that tomorrow.
