Note:
The capabilities of squid_ldap_auth (the LDAP helper shipped with
Squid) is very similar these days but differently configured.
We only learnt about Casper Pedersens helper after the helper in Squid
had been extended with most functions needed, also it was decided to
manage groups in a more flexible way.
The helpers shipped with Squid is probably more flexible, but at the
same time somewhat harder to configure than squid_auth_ldap.
As the helper in Squid-2.5.STABLE1-2 squid_auth_ldap does not seem to
support LDAP over SSL normally required by Novell.
The helper version in Squid-3 (also works with Squid-2) does support
LDAP over SSL when using OpenLDAP or Netscape LDAP libraries. This
version of the LDAP helper have now received sufficient testing and
will be available in Squid-2.5.STABLE3.
