Thanks for your replay. This command fails:

smbpasswd -t DOMAIN -r PDC

Of course, in an AD environment there is not PDC. I tried plugging in
the IP address of all 3 of my DCs and it fails.
"Unknown socket option SO-SNDBUF"

I will try UglySolution.pl and see if that fixes it. I wish there was a
more graceful way of doing this.

Have you set up your system to have the secret periodically updated?
Samba does not do this automatically on a winbind-only installation...
