I haven't tried with the MSN messenger, but i tried with yahoo and aol. the
following is what
i had to set up in squid.conf for the yahoo messenger:

acl chat_external dstdomain .yahoo.com
always_direct allow chat_external
never_direct allow all

basically, allow .yahoo.com as your desitination.
you should change this for MSN messenger domain.
