what about aufs? allways thought that aufs would be the best pick in
this situation, better than ufs?

Actually with the peak load he is having (600 requests/minute -> 10
requests/second) the ufs cache_dir driver should be very good.. (at
least on Linux and other systems with async filesystem updates)
