If your Web-Browsers are IE, use wpad.dat instead. I can email you a copy of
one if you'd like.

What exactly did you read so far? Google showed 10,300 hits and the
first links were all useful.
BTW, proxy.pac is not a feature of Squid but of your web browser. It was
introduced by Netscape IIRC and is now used by "both" browsers. ;)
(I guess by "both" the web masters think of Mozilla *and* lynx.)
