Hi, i am returning squid user. and have compiled source
squid-2.5.STABLE1.tar.bz2

My OS is OSX 10.2.6
DEv tools installed

I installed and configured

but on running squid i get a visible_hostname FATAL error
I read many places that by editing the squid.conf file fixes this. I
have tried that and still the error persist. I tried to maybe parse the
conf file with a "squid -k parse" and still get the same error. My
system does not have a fully qualified name and is be hind a firewall.
Does this make a difference for the web acceleration. and as a proxy
cache. It the early days this was not a problem under linux why is it
now.

Workarounds i have tried is to Mod the netinfo database to do a
/etc/hosts before trying a DNS. and then entering a fictious host name
that resolves to 127.0.0.1 but ping works but same error in squid
persist. I even set variable visible host name to localhost, same .

Please help.

I liked this product before and always recommended it to other Sys
admin's.

Roger
