Yes.

The purpose of the L2 parameter is to control the number of entries
per directory to avoid excessive CPU usage in scanning directories.

Most filesystems stores directories linearly, causing poor open/close
performance on large directories.

To small directories on the other hand wastes memory on OS level
directory caching.
